Hello to my fellow beautiful, stylish, overloaded, just hanging in there working moms out there! Just like you I often start the day awoken by little balls of endless energy before I am ready and just like you I often have to muster up energy at the end of the day to wrangle rogue toddlers for bedtime. I spend more time scraping dried mac n cheese off the kitchen floor than maintaining my manicure. I have stuck my finger in poop, examined poop intensely, and sniffed throughout the house for poopy offenders.
As unglamorous as motherhood can be, I am also a career-driven professional that has traveled the globe for business, an entrepreneurial mom who doesn’t sit on the sidelines in life, and also just a girl with real dreams of pretty little things and an amazing closet. I am chasing down my dreams while still uncovering what those dreams are. Some days I accomplish incredible feats in the workplace and other days I am simply doing well to make it to the office with two matching shoes! Through this blog, I hope to inspire, be inspired and share my journey along the way.
So – let’s get to know one another!
I live in Houston, Texas (born and raised).
I’m mommy to Calum and Gabrielle (I call her Ellie).
I’m the youngest in my family and wasn’t around babies much growing up, which meant that I did NOT know what I was in store for with my first child. There was a HUGE learning curve for me, and I readily admit that I struggled integrating my newly acquired “mommy hat” with all the other hats I was wearing (wife, friend, daughter, career woman in a male-dominated field, household manager, wanna-be entrepreneur, and on and on).
I studied History and Political Science in undergrad and have an MBA.
I could live on a college campus and go to school every day. I love to learn. I went to Baylor University, Texas A&M and Rice University…them Texas learnings, y’all.
I am the youngest of 4 kids.
Per my google search, I suppose that means that I am an uncomplicated, self-centered, fun-loving attention seeker. Hey, if the shoe fits...
I am an adventurer.
I have been to 6 of the 7 continents (no Antarctica). I have been to over 30 countries in the world. I have worked in Singapore, Australia and Algeria. Current adventure is surviving a two toddlers.
I have many, many, MANY shoes. And I am so hard on them!
I enjoy being fashionable, stylish and dare I say sexy. Yet I’m still a tomboy at heart and have no time to sweat over scuff marks and pristine pumps. Hence, I mostly relegate myself to affordable footwear. But I have no problem lusting after manolos, jimmy choos and louboutins.
Netflix and I have a dysfunctional relationship.
I “binge watch” series on Netflix. “Binge watching” consists of turning on my new favorite series and sleeping through it. I just finished “binge watching” Stranger Things Season 1 and Narcos. Currently ”binge watching” Black Mirror.
Which blogs inspired me to start HTX Mom?
The Honeybee by Andee Layne, Cupcakes & Cashmere, Uptown With Elly Brown, Hello Fashion Blog, Champagne & Chanel, The Atlantic-Pacific and Cammeo Head to Toe.
And on a sadder note, I used to read the Wellness Warrior blog by Jessica Ainscough. What a beautiful light of positivity in this world! But sadly she lost her battle with cancer at 29 years old in 2015. I do wish they would bring her blog back for all her inspirational posts. She inspired more people than she knew.
